PRM, AMP condemn action against tenants

By A Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 6: The use of brute force against unarmed tenants by law-enforcement agencies reflects anti-people policies of the government and has created insecurity among people.

This was stated by Asim Sajjad Akhtar and Asha Amir Ali of People’s Rights Movement (PRM) and Gulzar Masih of Anjuman Mazarain Punjab (AMP) at a joint press conference on Tuesday.

They said the use of force would aggravate the situation instead of resolving the issue. They condemned the Rangers and police action against tenants in Okara on Monday, which left a number of people injured.

They termed the action a violation of basic human rights. They said intimidation by authorities had also taken place in Pirowal and Sahiwal, where tenants had been threatened with the use of force if they did not accept the contract system.
