Anti-Tobacco Day meet

KARACHI, May 5: The 8th edition of the Anti-Tobacco Day tennis championship will be held here at the Karachi Club during May 24-31, the chief organizer of the event said on Monday.

Dr Saira Khan, President of the Pakistan Womens Tennis Asasociation (PWTA), said that some of the country’s top players including Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan will feature in the Rs200,000 tournament.

The tournament will include mens singles, mens doubles, ladies singles and juniors singles competition.

The event will be organized by the PWTA and will attract players from various cities of Sindh.

Other leading national players who are likely to compete in the event are Davis Cup player Nomi Qamar and former Pakistan No. 2 Hassan Mahmood.

The tournament is organized every year by the PWTA to create awareness of the hazards of smoking. The final of the tournament is played each year on May 31 which is observed as Anti-smoking Day the world over.—PPI
