Double crowns for Asia and Sadia


KARACHI, May 5: Asim Aziz and Sadia Yaseen both of Habib Bank clinched the men’s and women’s singles titles in the Islamia Club Open table tennis championship at Majeed Gymnasium, according to a press release of the club issued Monday.

Asim in the men’s singles final was stretched to limits by Adnan Mushtaq before recording an exciting 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7 win.

Asim started well by grabbing the first two games but Adnan snatched third and penultimate game before going down fighting.

Talented Asim completed the double crown when pairing with Adnan Mushtaq, they won the men’s doubles with a 11-7, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7 over Muhammad Khalid and Asif Razzak.

Sadia overcame her team-mate Saima Shamim in four games to captured women’s singles title. She dropped the second games before notching-up 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8.

Like Asim, Sadia also performed the double by winning the women’s doubles with Saima Shamim 11-8, 11-7, 11-9.

Asad Omer and Ghalia Khursheed won the boys and girls’ singles titles. Asad defeated Khizer Hayat Rashid 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 and Ghalia recovered after losing the opening games to score 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-9 victory over Hina Mahmood.

Asad Omer/Fazal Ahmed won the boys doubles beating Khizer Rashid/Hazik Shahzad 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 and Ghalia and Hina Mahmood won the girls doubles with 11-8, 8-11, 11-7, 11-5 triumph against Sidra/Mariam Naz.—APP
