Easy victories for favourites

LAHORE, May 5: Defending champions Army, Wapda and Navy won their respective matches on the first day of the national basketball championship super league round which started on Sunday night.

Army beat Railways 84-61. The soldiers led the first half 66-28. For Army, Nawazsih was the top scorer with 23 points while Maj Saleem (16), Mir Alam (12) and Mudassar (11) were the other prominent scorers.

For Railways, Mehmood (15) and Azhar (12) played well.

Wapda brushed aside PAF 88-56 after taking 66-47 lead at half time. Jahangir (16), Sheraz (13) and Mubashar (12) played for the winners. Gul Hassan contributed 13 points for the losers.

Navy upset HBL in a high scoring match 92-70. The seamen led 55-39 at half time. Nadeem was the main contributor for the winners with 23 points. Umar and Mustafa added 19 points each.

For the bankers, Zahid fought well with 25 points.
