KARACHI, April 5: The former world and Asian snooker champion Mohammad Yousuf, won the One Frame Younus Amir Baksh Memorial Tournament, when he beat late Younis’ nephew Atiq Latif Baksh in the final on Sunday.
This tournament was organised by the Karachi Club in memory of the former Pakistan No.2, who died at a very early age of 37.
The last eight cueists in the competition Aneel Bherwani, Vinay Parwani, Hasan Arif, Yasir Bachani, Ahmed Salim, Aamir Sheikh and Ahad Ali Khan were then pitted against the top eight Karachi players in the Pakistan ranking in the pre-quarter-finals.
In the pre-quarterfinals played, Hasan Arif edged out Kassam Kamani 58/50, Shakeel Bhatti outplayed Yasir Bachani 66/35, Mohammad Yousuf downed Aamir Sheikh 78/6, with a 70 point clearance, Vishan Gir trounced better of Ahad Ali Khan 89/6, with breaks of 29 and 28, Atiq Latif Baksh outgunned Vinay Parwani 65/32, assisted with a break of 40, Naveen Perwani rolled over Ahmed Salim 52/39, Bharat Satiani shocked Amit Parwani 59/37, while Aneel Bherwani was awarded a walkover against Faisal Essa.
In the quarterfinals Vishan Gir got the better of Shakeel Bhatti 70/63 in a nerve wrecking finish, Aneel Perwani overwhelmed Aneel Bherwani 52/21, Mohammad Yousuf strolled past Hassan Arif 72/40 and Atiq Latif Baksh ended the great run of Bharat Satiani 62/30.
In the semifinals, Atiq Latif Baksh playing attacking snooker, humbled Naveen Perwani 77/35 which included a break of 40. On the other hand Mohammad Yousuf cut Vishan Gir own to size 56/40.
Yousuf proved to many that he can still float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, when he ousted Atiq Latif Baksh 72/32 to clinch the trophy. The members of the Karachi Club contributed generously to help the bereaved family and a significant gesture was displayed by Yousuf and Atiq, winner and runner-up of the tournament by also donating their winning amount for the cause.
