Notice issued to ministry for not implementing court decision

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 5: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the finance ministry regarding non-implementation of a judgment directing it to pay salary to the police personnel working in the excise and taxation, custom and sales tax departments on a par with what their counterparts were getting in the police department.

The SC, in its earlier judgment, had directed the government to treat constables, sub-inspectors and inspectors working in these department equally and pay them the same salary their colleagues were getting in the Police. The government, however, did not implement the decision.

The petitioners, through Advocate Habib Wahabul Kheiri, filed a contempt of court petition.

The court, comprising Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui and Justice Sardar Raza Khan, asked the the ministry to explain as to why it did not implement the judgment.
