LANDI KOTAL, May 5: Various political parties have demanded an immediate end to the Malik system and implementation of reforms in the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

At a meeting held in Bara, Khyber Agency, the central information secretary Muslim League (Fata), Sayed Wali Shah Afridi, emphasized that it was imperative to put an end to what he alleged the notorious Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) law presently in vogue in tribal areas.

He alleged that the tribal people were still living under the colonial rule and called for an end to the Malik system. He said that Maliks were not the true representatives of Fata people as they were the agents of British rulers.

Mr Afridi asserted that the political agents were also a legacy of the British rule and alleged they have established their own fiefdoms in every tribal agency.

The Jamat-i-Islami, Khyber Agency, has also expressed its concern over the delay in the implementation of reforms package in Fata and announced that they would launch a Fata-wide campaign to force the government for its early implementation.

The Qamayal Jamhori Party Khyber Agency in its annual convention held in Jamrud has urged the NWFP government to fulfil its promise of introducing reforms in tribal areas and early announcement for holding of local bodies elections in tribal areas.
