Twin cities to have burns unit soon

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, May 4: The twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad will soon have a modern burns treatment unit which would be equipped with latest technology and foreign qualified surgeons.

An expatriate, Javed Ahmad Majeed, would fund the project which would be the only burns unit for the civilian population in Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Presently there are only two suitably equipped burns units at Kharian and Wah. Both the facilities are meant for armed forces. The civilian patients, if admitted, are charged so exorbitantly that very few can afford. In some cases it cost Rs50,000 per week to the family of burn patients.

The would-be-investor, owns chains of hotels in the United Kingdom with the name of ‘Tall Trees’. Mr Majeed on Sunday visited burns unit at Rawalpindi General Hospital. The RGH, where most of the burn patients are brought, does not enjoy good reputation as hardly any burn patient go out of the ward alive. The ward stings awfully.

Mr Majeed, who was accompanied by Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mian Iqbal Farid, vice-president Khan Abbas Khan, said the construction of the unit will start soon after the approval by the government and the investment on the project will be provided by ‘Tall Trees’. Charlis Eva, a British burn specialist surgeon is also visiting with Mr Majeed.
