WASHINGTON, May 4: US Secretary of State Colin Powell warned Syria on Sunday that the United States would closely watch for policy and behaviour changes that reflect Syrian cooperation in a changing regional landscape.
While wrapping up his first trip to the area since US-led forces toppled Saddam Hussein’s government in Iraq, Powell reported that Damascus had started cracking down on radical Palestinian groups in Damascus. But several of those same Palestinian groups said it was business as usual.—Reuters
