PABF to organise National Cadet meet


KARACHI, May 1: The Pakistan Amateur Boxing Federation (PABF) has decided for the first time to organise National Cadet Boxing Championship here to encourage boxing at the gross root level, said an official on Thursday.

The International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) has decided to introduce this sport for the age of pugilists 15 to 16 years.

Three years back the 1st International Cadet Boxing Championships was held at Baku and according to the international schedule this championship is to be held every two years like other boxing championships.

But the keen interest shown by the participating countries was so much that AIBA had no option change its policy and agreed to organise this cadet championship every year.

This year’s the cadet championship will be organise in Romania from June 9. PABF has also decided to organise the event in Pakistan the spokesman said.

He further added that the national cadet championship would enable the PABF to select some potential boxers for the upcoming international events. —PPI
