LAHORE, May 1: The Kenyan ambassador to Pakistan and his daughter were injured while their driver was killed in an accident on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway on Thursday.
Motorway police official Ishaq Ahmad told DawnAl-Haj Muhammad Omar Faiz Subh, 58, his daughter Fatima Omar, 22, and their driver Nazeer Bhatti, 35, were on their way to Islamabad when their official jeep overturned near the Khanqah Dogra interchange after a tyre burst. The motorway and national highway police rushed to the scene and removed all three injured people to hospital.
Later, they were shifted to the Lahore Jinnah Hospital. The driver was received dead at the hospital, DMS emergency Dr Aftab Karim said, adding the diplomat and his daughter were admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Dr Fawad Ahmad at the ICU described their condition as stable. “They are out of danger.”
He said the diplomat might be discharged sometime on Friday, but his daughter would be discharged after two days. She had multiple injuries, he said.
The body of the driver was handed over to his family without autopsy.
