KARACHI, May 1: Five persons died in separate road accidents in various areas of the city on Thursday.

A man, Noor Hameed Jan, aged 35, died after being knocked down by a bus (PN-5391) while crossing Shahrae Faisal at Nursery signal in the limits of Ferozabad police station. Police have impounded the vehicle.

The victim was rushed to the JPMC where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A housewife, 23-year-old Ms Shahnaz, wife of Mr Shahnawaz, was run over by a minibus of P1 route (JE-5124) while trying to disembark from the same vehicle near Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area. She was taken to the JPMC and pronounced dead on arrival. Driver of the minibus escaped from the scene.

A hit-and-run vehicle killed a police constable, Raja Nayyar, in Defence Housing Authority. He was returning from his duty when knocked down in Khayaban-i-Shahbaz.

He was rushed to the JPMC and pronounced dead on arrival. A resident of Clifton police Lines, the deceased was posted at Darakhshan police station. He was father of four children.

In another accident, Raza Haider, a supervisor in a factory, hit by an unidentified vehicle in Gulzar-i-Hijri area. He was a resident of Quaidabad.

An man was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle near Al-Habib Restaurant on Super Highway in the limits of Sachal police station. His identity could not be ascertained till late Thurs-day.

INJURED: Five passengers of a minibus of S16 route (JE-1016) were injured when it overturned near Guru Mandir on Thursday.

The injured, identified as Nasir, Salma, Safeer, Nadeem and Islam, were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment, police said.

BURNS: A man, Mr Saleem aged 35, was brought to the Civil Hospital with 80 per cent burns on Thursday night after being referred by Dr Ziauddin Hospital. Police and hospital sources had no immediate details about the cause of his injuries.
