HYDERABAD, April 30: The Investigation wing police officials of Hyderabad city and inspector of Anti-Dacoity and Robbery Cell (ADRC) harass the public by picking up people on suspicion grounds from different localities.

Police officials in civilian clothes and riding motorcycles without number plates, whisk away “suspects” to an unknown destination under “directives”. Brandishing pistols or revolvers, they carry out raids in various areas after being tipped off and take away suspects in connection with some crime.

The sub-inspector of police of investigation wing, A-section police station, Latifabad, Malik Riaz, picked up a man, Javed Chandio, from Qadam Gah Maula in the jurisdiction of the Fort police station three days back and took him to some unknown place.

The people who witnessed the scene approached the Fort police station for ascertaining facts but the latter denied having picked up Chandio. Finally, it was taken as an incident of kidnapping and wireless messages were sent immediately by the police concerned. Later, it was disclosed that Sub-inspector Malik Riaz had indeed picked up Chandio.

The sub-inspector has now been transferred to the Cantonment police station.

In another incident, the sub-inspector of investigation wing, Market police station, ASI Abdul Khaliq, picked a man, Haneef, from the jurisdiction of the Pinyari police station. He had picked him up under the directives of his superior.

Haneef was said to be involved in a theft case lodged at the Waghan police station, Larkana district. In fact, it was a business-related monetary dispute between Haneef and another party of Larkana that resulted in the registration of the case.

The Taluka City Council Nazim, Haji Moinuddin Sheikh, secured his release from the police station, saying he would settle the matter amicably between Haneef and his business partner.

Inspector Zulfiqar Arain of the ADRC picked up a man, Irshad Hussain, from the Hyder Chowk, Gari Khata area, late Monday night.

Irshad’s relatives and acquaintances had to approach the regional police officer at his house to get the details after the Fort police denied having picked him up. It was after an hour that Inspector Arain admitted having picked up Hussain.

“In all these incidents, the raiding police officials did not make any entry in the register of the police stations concerned, which is mandatory according to police rules,” a Taluka police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, told this correspondent.
