NEW DELHI, April 30: In an unusual press release on Wednesday, the Indian Army’s Northern Command in Kashmir’s Udhampur region announced that Kashmiri fighter groups in the territory possessed chemical weapons — only to later tone it down to say the claim was based on unconfirmed inputs.
News reports reaching New Delhi said the release also indicated that fighters in the Kashmir valley were planning the use of poison gas.
“The information was reportedly gathered through radio intercepts over the last three months,” NDTV news channel said.s
