ISLAMABAD, April 30: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has urged both the workers and employers to improve their relations for the collective good of society and for raising the standard of living of the common man.
“We should seek guidance from the work ethics enshrined in the Holy Quran, which, if sincerely followed, can ensure cordial relations between labourers and employers,” he said in his May Day message.
The president said such relations could greatly help in increasing production and productivity without which the objective of raising the standard of living of the people could not be achieved.
He said he was very confident that under the newly elected government the rights of workers would be effectively protected.
“I am also confident that the government will continue to do its utmost to ameliorate and improve the socio-economic conditions of Pakistanis,” he added.
The president said: “May Day symbolizes the sanctity and dignity of labour. One this day, more than a hundred years ago, a heroic chapter was written against exploitation and injustice.”
JAMALI: Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali in his message urged employers and workers to adopt modern means of production to successfully meet the new global challenges.
He said the government was fully committed to safeguarding the rights of the workers and improving their socio-economic conditions so that they could play an important role for the progress and prosperity of the country.
The government, he said, had already started a consultative process with the employers and workers to improve the labour management and to ensure industrial peace. —APP
