KARACHI, April 30: The Dawn unit of Karachi Union of Journalists has condemned the arrest of Shamim Alim, widow of their late colleague Alimuddin Pathan, in a property dispute under litigation, and demanded her immediate release.

In a resolution adopted on Wednesday, a unit meeting termed the raid, led by an army major at 2.30am, against all norms of civilized conduct and demanded an apology from NAB and the authorities and payment of compensation for the anguish caused to the family.

The resolution said NAB had failed to divulge any specific charges against her.

“While this meeting obviously would not like to comment on the nature of the case itself as it was sub judice, it would like to place on record its deep anguish over the behaviour of the law enforcement agencies. If at all Shamim Alim was to be questioned, the LEA could have done this in a civilized manner,” the resolution said and asked the government to take action against the LEA personnel involved in the midnight raid and arrest.
