KARACHI: Labour bodies plan rallies to mark May Day
KARACHI, April 30: Elaborate arrangements have been made by the labour organizations to observe May Day on Thursday.
Labour bodies in the institutions like Pakistan Telecom, Railways, KESC and PIA, as well as banks, financial institutions, municipal corporations and major industrial units have scheduled seminars and meetings to mark the day.
The Joint Coordination Council of Trade Unions, is to convene a meeting of workers at CTO Compound on I. I. Chundrigar Road. A number of prominent labour leaders are to address the participants.
The provincial Minister for Population Welfare and Women Development, Dr Saeeda Malik will preside over a seminar on ‘Women and Labour Day’. The Deputy Speaker of Sindh Assembly Ms Raheela Tiwana, will also address the seminar.
The National Trade Unions Federation of Pakistan will hold a meeting in North Nazimabad to express solidarity with labourers across the globe.
The meeting will be addressed by labour leaders and politicians as well.
The All Pakistan Trade Union Congress has organized a similar gathering which will be chaired by the Naib Amir of Jamaat Islami, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed. The meeting will deliberate upon problems being faced by labour community.
CM’S MESSAGE: Chief Minister Ali Mohammed Mahar, in his message on May Day, has said that due to the sacrifices of labourers, today the labour community is getting its rights and being heard around the world.
“Islam is the first religion that highlighted the dignity and importance of labourers,” he said.
The CM pointed out that all possible measures were being taken by the provincial government to provide justice and protect rights of the labour community.
He was confident that labour community would play its positive role in economic development of the country.
The provincial Minister for Labour, Raja Mohammed Abbas, said in his message that the government fully realized the dignity of labour community and was pursuing comprehensive planning for its welfare.
He hoped that the labour community would continue to work with dedication for the prosperity of the country with traditional zeal and enthusiasm.—APP
