ISLAMABAD, April 29: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will provide Rs25 million to Government College University, Lahore, for enhancement of the existing IT facilities.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the project was approved at a meeting of the HEC’s Department Development Working Party (DDWP), which was presided over by the commission executive director, Dr S. M. Hassan.

The main objective of the project is to enhance, strengthen and develop e-office infrastructure at the university, including local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN) for inter-office communication.

After implementation of the project, the university would be able to replace physical file system with computer-based file system.

The university would also be equipped with online services through web and portal. A website offering commonly required information, including educational policies, rules and regulations, scholarship, news and press releases, opportunities, advertisements, and official forms, would also be developed.

Under the project, intranet and internet facilities will be provided to employees and all departments/hostels of the university. The project aims at serving 20 postgraduate departments, nearly 5,000 students and 250 faculty members of the Government College University, Lahore.
