KARACHI, April 29: The referee judge of the Sindh High Court, seized of the medical students’ case, issued notices to the provincial health department and the advocate-general for Wednesday.

A division bench, comprising Justices Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Rehmat Hussain Jaferi, differed over the maintainability of the expelled Sindh Medical College students’ application for permission to take the MBBS (final) viva-voce examination in the absence of a writ petition pending before the court.

The case was referred to Chief Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, who appointed Justice Ghulam Rabbani as the referee judge and assigned the case to him.

The petitioner students were provisionally allowed by Justices Osmany and Jaferi to sit in the written MBBS (final) exam while finally disposing of their petitions in the last week of March.

They were required to submit the documents, including F.Sc. (pre- medical) mark-sheets, domicile and permanent residence certificates and the SMC ‘offer letters’, to the SMC authorities for scrutiny.
