LAHORE, April 28: An appellate bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday sought a reply from the NAB on an application by an accused in Emirates Bank fraud.

It was alleged in the application that police was committing excesses against accused Matloob, son of the applicant, Khalida Adeeb. The court summoned the Civil Lines SHO with record next week.

The bench comprised Justice Ali Nawaz Chauhan and Justice Rustam Ali Malik.

Advocate C. M. Sarwar, who pleaded the accused’s case, submitted that the petitioner’s son was a businessman and had no concern with the Emirates Bank fraud reference, but he had been implicated. He added that the Civil Lines police had raided the petitioner’s house from where they took away Rs200,000.

The applicant requested the court to take notice of the police’s high-handedness and direct them to return her money and set her son free.

While taking up another bail application of Zulfiqar Husain, a co-accused in Dhana Singh land fraud reference, the bench issued notice to the NAB for reply.

The applicant submitted that he was arrested 20 months ago by the NAB for misappropriation of Rs210 million in the NICFC. He added that he had been suffering from epilepsy and his treatment was not possible in the custody, so he must be bailed out on medical grounds.—APP
