Laser Lass completes hat trick
LAHORE, April 27:Chestnut English filly, Laser Lass completed a hat trick when she won the Attock Oil Cup run over 1600m during the extra Lahore Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The winner backed at 40 to 100 favourite was ridden by riding boy A. Aziz and trained by Haji Ghulam Sarwar, a champion trainer in yesteryear.
Laser Lass beat Dizzy Height also trained by Haji Sarwar by over six lengths handily. Bay filly Miracle bagged the third spot another three lengths behind while Muqaddar kept his hide and seek game finishing fourth, a distance away.
Laser Lass had already won two races in-a-row.
The cup was received by Khawaja M. Arif from the chief executive of Attock Oil Shuaib A. Malik soon after the race.
Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman Tariq Aziz was also present. This was the eighth race in racing order in which 13 class I, II and III runners competed.
In a fine performance fancied bay horse Prime Panther astutely ridden by jockey Shahid Rehman won the second Attock Oil Cup for class V run over 1200 metres.
Leading all the way home odds on favourite Prime Panther defeated Flame by four lengths. Green Hill and Morning Bird completed the frame among eight runners after the last-minute withdrawal of Glorious Song.
The outstanding performer of the day was bay English filly Dock Lands Diva who claimed the Minchinabad Plate, a class IV division I race run over 1200m.
She beat stablemate Aegean Daisy comfortably by over three lengths. Perfect Timing and Dare To Dream completed the frame among eight runners.
The LRC stewards were not satisfied with the performance of Key Guy Princess in the sixth race. They questioned her rider A. Imran and not being satisfied with his explanation they sent him off the track for two months alongwith a fine of rupees five thousand for his unsatisfactory handling of the filly.
They also fined Qasim Shah, who rode Key Guy Love for causing interference to fancied Thunder Storm, who finished second in this race.
Lady Luck heavily favoured former international hockey star Munir Dar, who had a field day when his four horses won in a card of nine events.
His winning streak began with a fluent win on Speed Gun and completed his tally winning through King’s Best, Waseem’s Love and Hunza in third, fourth and ninth race, respectively.
His three last named mounts were partnered by riding boy Khalil Vicky, who had his maiden treble of career on Sunday. All his three winners were trained privately by Manzoor Ahmad.
Jockey Shahid Rehman kept up his winning streak when he rode home two winners in Speed Gun and Prime Panther. Trainer Haji Ghulam Sarwar saddled two winners, Dock Lands Diva and Laser Lass.
Punters had a profitable afternoon when eight fancied horses won in a card of nine events. The lone long shot to surprise them was My Own Business in the fifth race. In other events bookmakers were seen on the paying end.
