Wapda retain title

LAHORE, April 27: Defending champions Wapda made a clean sweep to win the Golden Jubilee national wrestling championship at the Railways Stadium on Sunday.

Wapda won all the seven weight categories finals to score 70 points and won the championship in style.

 Mohammad Bashir fell Zahid Butt (Punjab) to earn a gold medal in the 120 kgs weight class. Other international wrestlers, Robin Masih, Mohammad Usman and Mohammad Umar also got gold medals.

Hosts, Pakistan Railways put up a good challenge to take second position with 56 points. Army finished third with 52 points.

In the three-day competition 59 wrestlers represented nine affiliated units of the federation including Police, Pakistan Universities, four provinces besides Wapda, Railways and Army.

Results (Finals): 55 kgs: Haroon Khan (Wapda) bt Abdul Karim (Railways) by fall.

60kgs:Robin Masih (Wapda) bt Mohammad Farooque (Army) on points . 66kgs: Zahid Khan (Wapda) bt Ghulam Bakir (Army) on points.

74kgs: Mohammad Ali (Wapda) bt Mohammad Riaz (Railways) by fall.

84kgs: Mohammad Usman (Wapda) bt Nadeem M Naeem (UGC) on points.

96kgs: Mohammad Umar (Wapda) bt Hamid Khan (Railways) on points.

120kgs: Mohammad Bashir (Wapda) bt Zahid Butt (Punjab) by fall.

Third and fourth position results:

55kgs: Ghulam Haider (Army) bt Qaiser Shehzad (Police) on points.

60kgs: Shabbir Ahmad (Punjab) bt Awais (Railways) on points

66kgs: Asghar Ali (Police) bt Muhammad Tariq (Punjab) by fall.

74kgs: Amir Gill (Police) bt A Hammad (Army) on points.

84kgs: Naveed (Railways) bt Akram Ranja (Punjab) on points.

96 kgs: Shoukat Ali (Army) bt Barya Khan (NWFP).

120 kgs: Sanaullah (Railways) bt Ghulam Abbas (Punjab) by fall.
