KARACHI, April 25: Shah Khan, a bay four-year-old bay colt, is on song to complete a hat trick, when the Summer Gymkhana Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Participating in the fourth race going over five furlongs, the colt with the services of jockey Tariq Mahmood once again in the saddle, will however find the going tough this time out, challenged by Bull Dancer and Sweet Grandy in a big field of 18 runners.
A card of eight events have been drawn up all going over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.
The first race begins at 1.00 p.m.
Another runner destined to win on Sunday is the bay six-year-old horse Auzy.
Only last week Auzy was backed to the hilt first for a place chance and then for a win, with lacs of rupees wagered on him but finished finished a bad fourth behind Bull Dancer, Cannon Again and Rich Valiant.
Apart from being badly beaten, Auzy by finishing fourth did not even oblige the racing fans with a place chance.
Auzy is running in the same field on Sunday, carrying the same weight of 8-9 on his back.
The speedy Knight Fighter ridden by young Khalid Nawaz finished second, three lengths behind the winner last Sunday. Going over the same distance but carrying four pounds more, Knight Fighter has the speed to pass the winning post ahead of Love Land and Reliable.
The aged bay gelding Law Of Nature, finishing second two weeks ago, should make amends by obliging owner Amjad Baloch this time by beating Powerful Tarzan, Eye Catcher and Rolling Thunder at the winning post.
If all goes well, Splendid Winner a complete disappointment last week under riding boy Bashir Karim, with the connections pretending to try the bay gelding but instead secretly went with Cannon Again, could easily get the better of Striker and Ustadoon Ka Ustad, with Racing Leader and Royal Beauty joining the fray in the sixth event on the afternoon’s programme.
S.M. Wasi Zaidi, whose thoroughbred chestnut filly Sweet Touch won the last event like a champion last week under jockey Imamdin, has another winner, this time in the likes of the bay mare Champion Lady.
Trained by A. Hanan, the mare if ticking, should provide the owner with another thrilling success, getting the better of Ceaser’s Palace, Great Bakht and Sachin on the way to the winning post.
In the seventh event, Agha Noman’s four-year-old bay filly Flying Bird, a handy winner last time out under Khalid Nawaz, should not let the supporters down adding another winner to her name, while lowering the colours of Prince Of Arabia and Ray Of Light.
Last Sunday, Ray Of Light finished a miserable fourth behind Micky Mikado II, Keen Winner, a bay colt making his maiden appearance and Prince Of Arabia, after trailing in the far distance for a major part of the race.
For his antics in the saddle, Abdul Jabbar had his licence revoked by the Stewards for an indefinite period. Indefinite period could mean one racing day, or perhaps a month, six months or a year. Only time will tell.
In the concluding event with only 10 runners in the field, the blue roan Order Of The Day, is fancied in these columns to pick up the spoils, with Blue’s Night and Aziz Love pinching the two place berths.
