HYDERABAD, April 24: The Government Secondary Teachers Association (GSTA), Hyderabad, has demanded of the Sindh secretary for education to decide pending cases of move-over and promotion of teachers.

This demand was made at a meeting of the association held here on Wednesday.

The meeting pointed out that move-over and promotion cases from grade 17 to 18 were lying pending in the office of the secretary for the last one year but meetings of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) were adjourned every time without deciding the cases. The April 18 meeting of the DPC was also adjourned without any reason. This delay had created resentment among secondary teachers of the district, it added.

It noted that since service books and other relevant papers were lying with the education secretary for the perusal of the DPC, other issues of teachers were also held-up.

It called for holding an immediate meeting of the DPC to decided the cases.

GSTA president Mohammad Safar Memon presided over the meeting.

In a letter addressed to the Sindh secretary for education, the association warned if the DPC meeting was not held immediately, teachers would resort to protest.

EXCESSES: Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, MNA, has expressed solidarity with the employees of the Faran Sugar Mills and demanded that the management stop excesses against the workers and reinstate 426 sacked employees.

In a statement issued on Thursday, he warned the mill management to withdraw the armed hoodlums who were harassing the poor workers and forcing them to vacate their quarters at gunpoint.

NAZIM: The Nazim of union council Shaikh Bhirkio, Abdul Karim Talpur, has also urged the management of Faran Sugar Mills to reinstate all sacked employees.

He assured the workers that he along with the Naib Nazim and all the councillors would join the workers’ hunger strike on April 26 and lead a peaceful march towards the mill.
