KARACHI, April 23: Two persons committed suicide in separate incidents in different parts of the city Wednesday.

Police said Shahid Waseem, 24, a student of computer science, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his home in Korangi 100-Quarters. Waseem wanted a marry a girl whose parents had refused his proposal.

Victim’s body was shifted to JPMC for postmortem.

Police said victim’s elder brother had also committed suicide a month back.

In another incident, a young woman committed self-immolation in her home in Surjani on Wednesday.

Police said Shabana, 30, a Hafiz-i-Quran, set herself on fire after sprinkling kerosene oil on her body in her home in sector 5-D Surjani Town.

The victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital where she was admitted but she died shortly afterwards.

Police quoted family sources having said that victim’s elder brother had scolded her.

ACCIDENT: A police constable died in a road accident in Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police limits.

Constable Dildar Khan, 35, was knocked down by a speeding truck on Hub River Road. The victim was rushed to Abbasi hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

SHOT DEAD: A police constable was shot dead while his associate escaped unhurt while they were attacked by unknown persons behind Al-Asif Square late on Tuesday night.

Gulzar-i-Hijri police said both the constables — Mohammad Sajid and Akmal — were a routine patrolling on their motorcycle. When they reached near an Afghan settlement behind the Al-Asif Square, they were fired upon by unknown persons.

Sajid suffered bullet wounds in his head, neck and shoulder, while Akmal escaped unhurt.

The suspects escaped after opening the fire, police added.

The injured policeman was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

INJURED: Unknown persons shot at and wounded a young man in Defence Housing Authority.

Bashir Ahmed, 40, was shot at by unknown persons when he stepped out of his apartment in DHA Phase-V.

The victim was rushed to JPMC where he was admitted for treatment, police said.

FIR: A woman lodged a report with the Zaman Town police on Wednesday night against her husband for incest. Police claimed to have arrested Shakoor and lodged an FIR 46/2003 against him.
