Lankan forces put on alert

By Our Correspondent

COLOMBO, April 23: The Sri Lankan government announced on Wednesday that it had put its army, police, navy and air force on high alert after the LTTE formally declared that they were moving out of the peace talks.

Checkpoint barriers were set up throughout the island and public vehicles have been halted by the police for inspection.

The route connecting Jaffna with the rest of the country is expected to be closed.
