KARACHI, April 22: The public and private schools would remain closed on April 23 (Safar 20) on account of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), sources in the education department of the city government said.

As per government schedule, there was a holiday at all schools in the city on April 23 and as such staff and students were not required to come to schools, said an official of education department.

However, since the University of Karachi has not declared any holiday on the occasion, the affiliated colleges will remain open on the day.

Classes had already been suspended at colleges with regard to preparation for the intermediate examinations, so there would be no routine work, but the staff were required to come, added the official, clarifying that the remaining intermediate students could collect their admit cards on Wednesday as well.

Despite the fact that most of the private schools had also declared April 23 a holiday, a number of students and teachers kept calling newspapers to know about the holiday as some of the schools had not declared any holiday.
