LAHORE, April 21: The Joint Action Committee of teachers, doctors and students has called off its protest movement following dialogues with the Punjab government representatives led by Law Minister Raja Basharat.
JAC leaders Nazim Hasnain, Prof Dr Yasmin Rashid and others demanded that the government should give time-frame to accept their demands.
When contacted, Dr Yasmin said Mr Basharat had agreed that the Mujaddid Mirza Commission report would be implemented in letter and spirit, no educational institution would be denationalized and no more schools would be given under the control of NGOs.
She claimed that the minister also assured that the chief minister would soon announce reinstatement of three teachers and a doctor sacked on the charge of taking part in agitation against the government.
Dr Yasmin claimed that Mr Basharat had said the time-frame would be announced after consultation with the chief minister. Till then, all issues would be held in abeyance, she added.
She claimed that Punjab Education Minister Mian Imran Masood had also made a commitment with the JAC leaders that he would himself announce the decisions taken in the meeting at a press conference.
Dr Yasmin said the JAC had only postponed its protest movement and would re-launch it if the government did not accept their demands.
