Former customs official arrested

QUETTA, April 20: Police on Friday arrested a former deputy superintendent of customs warehouse here, George Gill, on the charges of corruption and misuse of power.

The National Accountability Bureau chairman had ordered investigation against him on receiving complaints of corruption in the warehouse during 1994-98, when accused was its official in charge.

Investigation revealed smuggled items worth over Rs34.4 million seized by customs authorities and kept in the warehouse for disposal were misappropriated.

The accused was remanded in NAB custody.
