PESHAWAR, April 20: The Nazim of Union Council Landi Arbab was killed and two of his companions were injured in a firing incident here on Saturday night.

Police sources said Malik Humayun Khan, Nazim of UC Landi Arbab, had gone to attend a marriage ceremony near Khyber Supermarket in the Cantonment area. After the dinner, Malik Humayun was walking along with Aftab Alam and Naveed near Army Flats when Majid, son of Daulat, a resident of Bhana Mari, opened fire on them. All the three received bullet wounds. They were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where Malik Humayun died.

Sources in the hospital said condition of the injured was critical. Later police arrested Majid. Police claimed that few years ago, the Nazim had allegedly killed an uncle of the accused.

Meanwhile, Noor Amin allegedly killed his mother, Benazira, over a family dispute in the Naguman locality in the jurisdiction of Daudzai police station on Saturday night.

DOUBLE MURDER: Zulfiqar killed his daughter and a young man who wanted to marry each other despite their parents’ opposition, in the jurisdiction of Gulbahar police station here on Sunday morning.

Gulshida, wife of Zulfiqar, told the police that Mohammad Rafiq, son of Mohammad Sadiq, wanted to marry her daughter Shehnaz as both were in love.

But Zulfiqar was against this proposal. He had also warned Shehnaz against meeting Rafiq.

On Sunday morning, Zulfiqar killed his daughter and later went to the house of Rafiq and shot him dead. The accused fled after the double murder. Police have registered an FIR.

ARRESTED: The Khasadar force and levies have arrested an alleged criminal after an encounter in the Shalober Qamberkhel area of Bara, Khyber Agency, on Saturday.

Sources in the tribal belt said the Khasadar force and levies arrested Sabir in Shalober Qamberkhel after an exchange of fire, while his accomplice Tooray escaped.

Sabir was wanted by the Peshawar police and political administration of Khyber Agency in several cases of murder, attempted murder, car snatching and kidnapping for ransom.

The sources said about two months ago, Sabir had allegedly kidnapped Liaquat Ali and Faridullah from the Kohat-Peshawar Road.

He kept both of them at the residence of Azbat Khan for 40 days and when Liaquat Ali tried to escape, Sabir allegedly killed him at the Bar Qamberkhel area. Sabir later also injured Farid and dumped him in the Khajori area of Bara.
