KARACHI: 70 students detained

KARACHI, April 19: More than 70 students were picked up in various educational institutions after a clash between two student groups on Saturday, the police said.

Sources at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said more than 30 students had been injured in clashes in various educational institutions and they were brought to these two hospitals.

DIG Operations Tariq Jamil said: “We have detained about 70 students from both the IJT and the APMSO, the groups involved in the clashes. People have come to lodge FIRs. We are looking into it. We will formally arrest those who will be found involved in the clashes.”

He said scuffles between the two student groups were reported in various educational institutions. A major scuffle took place at Jinnah Government College where a policeman was also injured when the two groups pelted each other with stones. Two students also suffered head injuries.

He said the police and rangers were sent to all the educational institutions where disturbances occurred.
