ISLAMABAD, April 19: The ambassador of France, M. Yannick Gerard, said the representation of women in Pakistan’s parliament was more than that of France, which would definitely change the mood of debates and strengthen the democratic institutions.
He was talking to the speaker of National Assembly, Chaudhry Amir Hussain, at the Parliament House here on Saturday.
The ambassador stressed the need for an early establishment of Pakistan-France friendship group and inquired when the committee system would be institutionalized.
Chaudhry Amir Hussain expressed satisfaction over the existing warm and cordial bilateral relations and lauded the French policies. He briefed the ambassador about the working of National Assembly and importance of committee system.
The speaker told him that they were trying to create consensus in the formation of committees so that both sides of divide in the House were given due representation.
In near future, the committee will become functional, he added. He also extended an invitation to Jean Louis Debre, the speaker of the National Assembly of France, to visit Pakistan.
Both of them shared the common view on strengthening the United Nations and preserving the integrity of multilateral institutions to ensure long lasting peace and security in the world, keeping in view the existing global geo-politico situation.
Later on, Peter Tejler, the ambassador of Sweden, called on Chaudhry Amir Hussain. He felicitated the speaker on assuming the office.
Sweden and Pakistan have almost similar views on all international issues and bilateral parliamentary relations between the two countries may be enhanced, he stressed.
Since the speaker of the National Assembly is the custodian of the lower House, therefore, he is always neutral and impartial. Informally, the speaker can play a vital role when there is a deadlock. His ruling cannot be challenged in any court of law, Chaudhry Amir Hussain informed the Swedish ambassador.
The speaker reiterated that pakistan attached high importance to its relations with Sweden and desired that economic interaction between the two countries might be enhanced and they would welcome more Swedish investment here.
