RAWALPINDI, April 19: District Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani on Saturday said development funds allocated for the Special Seats members including the women councillors would be increased from Rs10 million to Rs20 million in the next financial year.

He said this while talking to a delegation of women councillors in his office here. Deputy District Nazim Raja Akhlas Javed was also present on this occasion.

Raja Tariq Kiani said this honorarium would be fixed during the sessions of the district councils. The delegation comprised Riffat Sarwar, Nargis Faiz Malik, Ajmalul Nissa, Humaira Khan, Mrs Sarkar Khan, Sumaira Khan, Ayesha Tariq, Ra’ana Rizvi, Rukhsana Mushtaq, Naureen Akhtar, Yasmeen Kausar, Royala Saleem, Naheed Kiani, Saima and others.

Meanwhile, on the suggestion of the district Nazim, well-to- do people in the district and women councillors have sought proposals for establishing computer centres in the local government schools within ten days so as to enable the children of the women councillors to get free computer education.

During the meeting, it was decided to provide a room and a telephone in the office of the deputy district nazim for the women councillors. It was also decided to establish a book bank at district level with the cooperation of women councillors. Boy and girl students would be given free books at the beginning of the new academic year.

Meanwhile, the district Nazim said National Reconstruction Bureau had chosen Rawalpindi as role model for the performance of the district government.

APP ADDS: Commuters have urged District Nazim Tariq Kiani to build more sheds on the busy Murree Road, as they have to face difficulties while waiting for public transport vehicles.

Although, some sheds were built last year on the directives of the district Nazim, many more are still needed to facilitate general public.

Mr Kiani had pledged that 10 sheds would be set up on Murree Road, but only five have been built so far.

Anwar Dar, a retired government servant, said the bus stops on either side of Shamsabad were without sheds, causing inconvenience to the commuters. He urged the district Nazim to direct the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) to install sheds on both sides of the road.

Similarly, Malik Jalal, a resident of Faizabad, said the absence of sheds on either side of the busy bus-bays was regrettable. He called upon the TMA to establish proper sheds to save them from the vagaries of weather.

The TMA claims that building of sheds at Faizabad is the responsibility of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

When asked for comment, a CDA official said it was the responsibility of the TMA, as the area fell in its jurisdiction. He said the authority would build sheds at the bus stops while carrying out dualization of I.J. Principal Road.

The commuters have also urged the TMA to carry out plantation along the median and the ground near Faizabad market.

Some other busy bus stops at Committee Chowk, Liaquat Bagh, and Rehmanabad are also without sheds.
