LAHORE, April 18: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that the government must develop a roadmap for improving the standard of education in universities of the province and approach each university individually for its implementation.

Speaking at the concluding session of a seminar on “Improvement in the quality and standard of education in universities” organized by the Punjab University on Friday, he said that the university should develop market-oriented courses besides identifying the purpose and depth of its research programmes in keeping with the international focus. He also urged the universities to develop collaboration with the industry.

He said the government should massively fund universities and other educational institutions.

Saying that teachers’ salaries and allowances should be increased, he said that teachers should also strengthen their research-oriented activities.

The governor said universities should focus on the overall development of students and enhancement of their communication skills.

The governor said that the recommendations made during the seminar would be incorporated in the policies to be formulated by the government.

Earlier, vice-chancellors, teachers and students of various universities of the city participated in the day-long discussion and expressed their opinion on issues pertaining to teachers, students, curriculum and the overall environment in universities.
