KARACHI: Prosecution ends arguments in murder case

KARACHI, April 18: The prosecution in a double-murder case against the chief of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Akram Lahori, and his two alleged associates closed its side with recording the statement of the investigation officer.
Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the anti-terrorism court No 5, who is conducting the trial inside the Central Prison Karachi, fixed April 21 for recording the statement of the accused.
The case against Lahori and co-accused, Ataullah and Mohammed Azam, pertained to the killing of Anver Tirmizi and Zulfiqar Haider in an attack on March 11 last year in the police limits of Shah Faisal.
Special public prosecutor Syed Nadeem Hussain Shah examined sub-inspector Jamal Akhtar, the investigation officer of the case, who was also cross- examined by defence counsel M. R. Syed.
In all, the prosecution examined 13 witnesses, including three eyewitnesses, against the accused. The brother of deceased Tirmizi was one of the eyewitnesses, who identified the three accused in the trial court during their depositions.
KIDNAPPING CASE: Judge Arshad Noor Khan of the ATC-3 put off the hearing of a kidnapping for ransom case against a juvenile accused after recording the statements of two prosecution witnesses.
The judge, who had sentenced two accused to death in the same case in November last, fixed Saturday for recording the statement of the investigation officer.
The judge had separated the case of accused Bashir Ahmed as he was a juvenile accused and remanded the case to the juvenile court. However, the juvenile court remanded the case back for want of jurisdiction.
The three accused, along with an absconder, kidnapped the boy for ransom while he was playing outside his home in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
The accused took the boy away in a car and kept him confined in a house in Abdullah Gabol Goth, Gulshan-i-Maymar. Later, they phoned the father of the hostage and demanded Rs3 million for his release.
