KARACHI, April 16: Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat announced on Wednesday that to overcome the shortage of college teachers, some 950 lecturers would be recruited in the education department, details of which would be made public on May 10, through newspapers.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the annual prize distribution ceremony at the Islamia Women College, Lines Area.
The minister pointed out that owing to non-availability of sanctioned new expenditures, 40 colleges, including eight colleges of Karachi and 2,000 schools across the province, were facing various problems.
“With the objective to resolve their issues a high-level meeting has been called on April 18th in Karachi, where SNE of all colleges and schools would be accorded approval”.
He said each college would be provided 30 computers, 4 additional rooms for holding BSC classes and an air conditioned auditorium.
Taking cognizance of shortage of library books in majority of the colleges, he said that the EDO (colleges) had been directed to provide the required books.
The British Council had also consented to provide an audio-video library to each college to enhance the learning skills of the students, he said.
Reiterating government’s claims to observe merit, he said: “If any individual attempted to interfere in the working of colleges’ principals, relating to admission, action would be taken against such individual” he remarked.
Underlining government measures for redressing the problems faced by the students, he said that education department was keen to offer all available facilities in an effective manner, to students.
Masroor Abid, EDO (colleges), Prof Raees Alvi, and principal of the college, also spoke on the on the occasion.
Later, the minister distributed shields and certificates among outstanding students in the fields of education, sports and speech contests.
SALARIES: Meanwhile, speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony of the Green Belt High School, the minister regretted that some private schools pay the teachers as low as Rs600 and in such conditions how the teachers could be expected to impart good education to children.
He said the government was striving to improve the performance of educational institutions and teachers as well.
On this occasion provincial minister Imtiaz Ahmad Shiakh said the school was founded by him and he was trying to provide education to children according to modern day needs.
