FAISALABAD, April 15: Pakistan Army grabbed the third spot in the national Junior Hockey championship, beating Railways 2-1 on Tuesday at the Faisalabad Hockey Stadium
The Army mounted pressure from the start of the play and centre forward Anees-ur-Rehman succeeded in scoring the maiden goal of the play during the 23rd minute of the first half. The Railways responded with a series of attacks and right out Zaheer Ahmed scored the equaliser in the 34th minute of the first half. At lemon time the scores were locked 1-1.
Both the teams tried their best to take over the lead. However the Army was lucky to get the winning goal in the 58th minute through left in Muhammad Khan. This victory enabled the Army bag third position.
Chudhary Tanveer Ahmed of Karachi and Naeem Akhtar of Quetta supervised the match as umpires.
Meanwhile defending champions National Bank and PTCL will clash in final here on Wednesday (April 16).
Gen Muhammad Aziz Khan, President PHF, will be introduced to the players of both teams, while the Governor Punjab, Lt. Gen (Retd) Khalid Maqbool will distribute trophies to the winners and runners-up.—APP
