HYDERABAD: Hunger strike against MPA

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, April 15: A group of activists of the Lal Shahbaz Action Committee observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Tuesday.

They were protesting against MPA Asif Ali Shah and his henchmen for kidnapping and torturing Mohammad Juman Rind, a resident of Makrani Para, Sehwan, who was later released.

Those who observed hunger strike included Mir Shamshad Ali, Manzoor Ahmad Solangi, Nasir Ahmad Shaikh and Mohammad Juman.

Talking to newsmen, Mohammad Juman said three days back, he was taken away by the MPA and his armed henchmen and was tortured.

He said he had registered an FIR at the Sehwan police station but the accused had not been arrested.

He distributed copies of the FIR among the newsmen.

Mr Juman threatened to commit self-immolation at the gate of the Lal Shahbaz shrine on Friday if the accused were not arrested.

Our Dadu Correspondent adds: A large number of people, including Nazims, councillors and activists of various political parties, staged a demonstration in Sehwan to protest against the SHO of the area.

Talking to newsmen, the protesters accused SHO Manzoor Ahmad Panhwar of registering fake cases against innocent people.

They said the SHO had registered a fake case against MPA Syed Asif Ali Shah on the directives of a local Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader.

They said many gambling and drugs dens were being run in the town in connivance with the police.
