MIAMI, April 12: Michael Jordan scored 25 points to guide Washington to a 91-87 win over the Miami Heat on Friday, but it was not enough to prevent the Wizards being eliminated from the playoffs.
Milwaukee’s 105-103 victory over the Raptors in Toronto clinched the final playoff spot for the Bucks, leaving Jordan with just three games left in his glorious career.
Jordan retained his all-time scoring lead against Miami with his 25 points. His per-game average is 30.2 compared to Wilt Chamberlin’s 30.1.
The Heat also honored Jordan in pre-game ceremonies by retiring his number 23. No Heat player will ever wear that jersey again.
Christian Laettner added 13 points for the Wizards while Kwame Brown had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Caron Butler led Miami with 19 points.
In Toronto, Toni Kukoc picked up 25 points as the Milwaukee Bucks clinched a playoff berth with a 105-103 win over the Raptors.
Gary Payton added 24 points for the Bucks while Tim Thomas had 17. Desmond Mason had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Jerome Williams recorded 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors while Rafer Alston added 20 points.
In Atlanta, Dion Glover scored 23 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim added 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Hawks past the Cleveland Cavaliers 109-89.
Theo Ratliff added 17 points while Jason Terry had 16.
Tierre Brown had 15 points for the Cavaliers while Ricky Davis and Jumaine Jones collected 13.
In Minneapolis, Kevin Garnett had 24 points and 15 rebounds to pace the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 106-90 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Wally Szczerbiak added 19 points for the Timberwolves.
Elton Brand scored 20 points for the Clippers, Corey Maggette adding 18.
In Memphis, Stromile Swift had 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Grizzlies beat the Portland Trail Blazers 96-93.
Pau Gasol added 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Grizzlies while Jason Williams had 15 points and 12 assists.
Zachary Randolph scored 31 points and had 20 rebounds for Portland. Bonzi Wells added 24 points and 10 rebounds.
In New York, Allan Houston contributed 25 points as the Knicks edged the Philadelphia 76ers 108-103.
Howard Eisley added 18 points for the Knicks while Latrell Sprewell had 16.
Allen Iverson scored 20 points for the 76ers and added 11 assists. Eric Snow totaled 18 points while Kenny Thomas had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
In Indianapolis, Tracy McGrady turned in another outstanding performance, scoring 35 points and hauling down 11 rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat the Indiana Pacers 98-86 to clinch a playoff spot.
Darrell Armstrong had 15 points while Pat Garrity added 11.
Jermaine O’Neal scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds for the Pacers.
In Chicago, Eddy Curry recorded 24 points as the Bulls downed the New Jersey Nets 95-86.
Jalen Rose scored 23 points and added 10 rebounds for Chicago while Jamal Crawford had 19 points.
Kenyon Martin led New Jersey with 29 points while Richard Jefferson had 17. Jason Kidd picked up 11 points and 12 assists.
In New Orleans, Jamal Mashburn scored 20 points and Jamaal Magloire added 19 points and 18 rebounds as the Hornets edged the Detroit Pistons 93-89.
George Lynch added 15 points for New Orleans.
Corliss Williamson recorded 21 points for the Pistons, beaten in four out of six games. Chauncey Billups and Richard Hamilton both added 16 points as Detroit stayed tied for first in the East with New Jersey.
