GEORGETOWN, April 12: West Indies wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs will miss the second Test against Australia after tearing a groin muscle.
But he will be able to bat in second innings of first Test with the aid of a runner.
West Indies have a ready-made replacement for Jacobs in Carlton Baugh Jr, who made the squad for the series opener.
Jacobs had sustained a second-degree muscle tear while batting. He battled on to remain unbeaten on 54, helping the hosts to first-innings total of 237 after they slumped to 53-5 early on.
But he was not able to take his place behind the stumps, with Wavell Hinds deputising for him.
He will not be available for the second Test in Trinidad as he recovers from injury.
Jacobs said he put the team ahead of his own welfare. “When you get selected to play, you want to give everything for the countries of the West Indies.
“I saw Shivnarine was playing very well and realised I had to stay there as long as possible. I just wanted to help him make some runs.”—PPI
