MIRPURKHAS, April 12: Mango trees in the district have been affected not by virus attack but by shortage of irrigation water and unfavourable climate.

This was said by plant protection officer of the agriculture extension wing, Mirpurkhas, Dodo Khan Laghari, while briefing journalists here on Saturday.

He said that the provincial agriculture department had advised the growers to spray adequate quantities of fungicides in their mango orchards, covering an area of 30,000 acres in the district.

PSC: Owing to violation of rules and regulations, the selection of members of the public safety commission, Mirpurkhas, has become controversial, it was learnt on Saturday.

Members of the public safety commission were selected by the selection committee on its own discretion, sources said.

According to the procedure, publication of advertisement in newspapers inviting applications from prospective candidates was mandatory, but no advertisement was published in any of the national newspapers.
