Two bandits die in encounter

SUKKUR, April 12: Two bandits, allegedly belonging to the Bugti tribe, were killed and two policemen were injured on Saturday in an encounter after a gang of 30 bandits attacked a police mobile near Gashkori Pull in Jacoababad district.

Bandits are reported to have snatched a sub-machine gun and a Kalashnikov assault rifle from the injured policemen, who were later shifted to the Rahimyar Khan Hospital in a serious condition.

Sindh IGP Syed Kamal Shah — who was informed about the incident by DIG (operation), Sukkur, Ramzan Channa — announced Rs50,000 award and promotion to the injured constables. He also announced Rs20,000 award and promotion for the other seven policemen, who had participated in the encounter.

The police said that the bodies of the dead outlaws, who had died in the encounter in the jurisdiction of the Risaldar police station, had been identified as Pagli Bugti and Saro Bugti.

The body of Saro Bugti had bee taken away by the outlaws.

DIG (operation) Ramzan Channa, who visited the site of the encounter, told journalists in Kandhkot that about 30 outlaws had come to the Gashkori Pull area in two double-cabin vehicles early Saturday morning.

He said that the outlaws had opened fire on the police officials after they saw the police mobile there injuring police constable Hazoor Bakhsh Ansari and Islamuddin Soomro.

Later, two outlaws had been killed in the ensuing gunbattle.

He said that Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yusuf and Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Khan Mahar were discussing about the possibility of a combined operation against outlaws in Balochistan, specially along the border areas, adding that a massive operation was imminent in this regard.

The seven policemen, who were rewarded Rs20,000 cash prizes and promotions, included Abdul Razzak Golo, Amanullah Khoso, Ehsan Umrani, Islam Soomro and Daud Mirza Bhutto.

POLIO: A meeting was held at the DCO office here on Saturday to review arrangements being made for the three-day anti-polio campaign, scheduled to be launched on April 15.
