RAWALPINDI, April 12: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mian Mohammad Shafi on Saturday acquitted a person of charges of abducting and criminally assaulting a woman.

Shaukat Maseh was acquitted after the defence council produced the alleged victim, Shazia, before the court, who termed the accused as innocent.

She told the court that she left her house on her own will and married another person, Naheed Aslam, according to the law. She said her parents and police had falsely implicated the accused in the case.

The same court rejected the bail plea of an accused, Mohammad Ilyas, who had been booked by Pirwadhai police for allegedly smuggling two kilograms of charas.

District and Sessions Judge Dost Mohammad Khemta awarded six months of rigorous imprisonment to a person in a drug-peddling case.

The convict, Mohammad Iqbal, was also fined Rs500, and in case of non-payment, he would have to undergo another 15-day imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the convict had been booked by Bani police for possessing 115 grams charas.

Similarly, Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate Iqbal Guraya awarded seven months of rigorous imprisonment to Anwar Islam, who had been booked by Pirwadhai police for possessing an unlicensed 30-bore pistol.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanaullah Malik rejected bail applications of four persons in a murder case.

The accused — Jehangir, Abid, Tanveer alias Bobi and Waqar — had been booked by Kalar Syedaan police for allegedly murdering Mohammad Saeed.

The judge of Anti-Terrorists Court No 2, Safdar Hussain Malik, heard the arguments of defence council in a kidnapping and murder case.

According to the prosecution, Amin Abbas, Mohammad Ahmed, Nasrullah and Sakhi Sultan allegedly kidnapped a trader, Syed Shakir Ali Rizvi, from Township, Lahore, and took him to Bhara Kahu, Islamabad. They also demanded $0.6 million ransom from the family of the accused.

However, the accused allegedly killed the victim when he tried to escape. Two persons, Rana Sarwar and his wife, Mubeen Sarwar, are also proclaimed offenders in the case.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed awarded three months of rigorous imprisonment to a person for smuggling liquor.

The court also imposed a Rs3,000 fine on the convict, Tariq, who had been booked by Bani police for possessing six bottles of wine.

The same court accepted bail application of five accused, who had been booked by various police stations under Section 14 of Foreign Act.
