ISLAMABAD: Welfare body to set up six model schools
ISLAMABAD, April 12: The Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) has planned to open six new model schools in the NWFP.
According to sources of the ministry of labour and manpower, new model schools will be opened at six different places in Peshawar, Hattar, Karak, Mardan, Takht Bai and Swabi.
Eight model schools and one primary school are already functioning in various parts of the province. The WWF collects contributions from employers under the WWF Ordinance, 1971 at 2 per cent of assessable income exceeding Rs100,000 in any year of account.
The WWF is also being utilized to finance housing schemes and other welfare schemes for the betterment of workers, the sources said.
Regarding new plans, the sources said, “A number of projects are under consideration, including construction of model schools, housing societies for workers and welfare schemes beside other projects.” An amount of Rs11.930 billion is available in the WWF.
In case of schemes being completed under the WWF, they said, 28 schemes are under progress, including three in Punjab, with completion work 65.75 per cent, twelve in Sindh, having completion status about 60 per cent, five in the NWFP, with completion work more than 80 per cent and eight in Balochistan, with completion work more than 85 per cent.
About facilities being provided in under construction schemes, the sources said, all civic facilities would be ensured, including roads, sewerage, water supply, electricity, gas, community centres, mosques and dispensaries.
The WWF established a number of model schools in various areas of the country with a cost of hundreds of millions rupees beside setting up nine kidney centres in various cities of all the four provinces and the federal capital.—APP
