Motorcyclists thrash two policemen

SIALKOT, April 11: Two constables of Sambrial police were badly beaten up on Friday by three armed motorcyclists on Daska-Sambrial Road near Nishtarabad village.

Amjad Pervaiz and Shafiq were on patrol duty on their two-wheeler when they stopped motorcyclists and started to search their bodies. Taking advantage of their number, they overpowered the constables and started thrashing them severely. Later, they fled after snatching an official rifle from the constables.

Sambrial police have registered a case against the two nominated accused, Iftikhar and Irfan.landmine blast: One more villager sustained serious injuries in another landmine blast on Friday in a village of the Sialkot Working Boundary’s Shakargarh-Narowal sector.

Sources said Zar Hayat (28) was passing through the fields when he passed over an anti-person landmine which went off, injuring him grievously. He was admitted to the Sialkot CMH in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani troops thwarted another Indian attempt of fencing near the working boundary’s Jammu-Saamba-Akhnoor sector, causing heavy defence losses to the enemy.

Plantation: The district Nazim opened the spring season’s tree plantation campaign in the Sialkot district by planting an Aerocanea tree in the lawns of the Government Jinnah Islamia College here on Friday.

The district forest officer informed the Nazim that at least 313,400 trees would be planted in the district during the spring season. He said the forest department would provide 180,400 saplings, the district government 25,000 and the Civil Defence 108,000 saplings for the tree plantation campaign.

Over and above, he said more than 665,000 trees and saplings would be available at the forest department’s 10 nurseries in the district. The people and growers could get the saplings of Sheesham, Sumbal and Popular at a nominal price of 50 paisas per sapling, while the saplings of Keekar and Sufaida would be available for Rs2 each.
