SOUTH WAZIRISTAN, April 11: The political administration of South Waziristan Agency has dispatched the scouts force stationed at four camps to the agency headquarters, Wana, to take part in the anti-poppy operation on Friday as the Wana town continued to remain cut off from other parts of the agency for the last 25 days.

Official sources said that the South Waziristan Scouts (SWS) contingents stationed at Jandola, Tannai, Sarwekai and Laddha camps were sent to the Wana town as the tribesmen put up resistance to the anti-poppy drive in the agency.

A tense calm prevails in Wana as people were not able to offer their Friday prayers in the mosques in Wana due to a curfew-like situation.

The security agencies, including the SWS and Khasadar force, have also detained tribesmen who tried to come out in the Rustam Bazaar in Wana, the sources said, adding that even government servants were not spared to move about in the town.

The sources claimed that the SWS contingents armed with artillery and heavy machine guns took up positions in and around Wana to destroy the standing poppy crop over large tracts of lands.

However, they added, the tribesmen had refused to cooperate with the security agencies or the political administration in this operation.
