KARACHI: Yunus Ahmar passes away


KARACHI, April 11: Yunus Ahmar, a prominent literary figure, died here on Friday morning after a protracted illness.

He was buried in Karachi University graveyard.

He is survived by his wife, son Prof (Dr) Moonis Ahmar and two daughters.

He was known for his work in Bengali and Urdu literature. He was an authority on Qazi Nazarul Islam and translated many urdu poems into Bengali.

He was a leading figure of the Progressive Writers Movement and authored several books. His last book was entitled Modern Urdu Poets, published in 1995. His autobiography, Mazi Kay Ta’aqqub Mein, was published in 1991. He also worked with Radio Pakistan as programme manager. — APP
