Complaint cell to be reorganized

LAHORE, April 10: The city police chief on Thursday ordered reorganization of a cell to deal with complaints against police department.

The directions were issued in a meeting at the city police headquarters presided over by chief Khwaja Khalid Farooq, focusing more on how to deal with complaints against police.

An assistant sub-inspector earlier supposed to receive complaints at the cell at the headquarters was replaced by an inspector. Discipline and inquiry police SP Chaudhry Shafiq Ahmad was appointed in-charge of the cell.

The police chief directed the SP to ensure a quick response to complaints received at the cell. He asked the SP to refer the complaints to divisional SPs concerned who would maintain a monthly record in this regard.

“A copy of a complaint should also be presented to me,” the police chief said and directed all the divisional SPs to spare one hour exclusively for the complaints referred to them.

He warned all officials, especially police station in-charges, of strict action if a complaint was filed against them and “there would be no compromise on illegal detention and delay in crime registration.”

“Protection of the life and property of people is the prime responsibility of the police department and all officials should make concrete and sincere efforts to fight crime,” the police chief said.

CAR-LIFTER: Mujahid police squad claimed on Thursday to have arrested a car-lifter minutes after he struck.

The squad said one Ali called the police emergency number claiming his car had been lifted from Shadman. A message was radioed and the car was intercepted by a Mujahid police squad on patrol near Hazrat Shah Jamal’s shrine in Ichhra.

The car-lifter was handed over to police concerned for further action.

Another squad intercepted a rickshaw in the cantonment area and on search recovered a pistol, two magazines and 10 bullets from the possession of Usman, Shahzad, Ghulam Farid and Yasir.

Further investigation is underway.
