KARACHI, April 10: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that efforts are being made to enhance water resources of Karachi and special attention is being given for installation of a treatment plant for desalination and conversion of ocean water into sweet-water.
These views were expressed by him at a meeting in a school in Baldia Town here on Thursday.
He said resources of the city district government are limited as compared to its problems. “However, we are utilizing these resources very prudently in such a way that maximum number of people can be benefited.”
Referring to the problem of water shortage in Baldia, he said that a committee, comprising Nazim of Baldia and EDO water and sanitation and their DO, had been set up to look into the problem.
THAR: The Nazim also said that “God has gifted the land of Thar desert with enormous treasures, but we have not yet been able to utilize them.”
He expressed these views at the inauguration of the Bilawal Public School in Diplo (Tharparkar district), set up under the aegis of Green Crescent Trust.
He said that there are graphite mountains in Thar spreading over hundreds of miles which are one of the precious stones of the world but, unfortunately, it was hitherto neglected.
The entire society should play its role for the betterment of backward areas, he said.
Asif Hussain Siddiqui, Abdul Rasheed Baig, Sajid Hassan, Allah Warayo, Dr. Shafi Memon and Umer Khan Qaimkhani also spoke.
APWA SCHOOL: Speaking at the annual prize distribution ceremony and inauguration of a computer laboratory at the APWA Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School, Liaquatabad, Naimatullah Khan regretted that western culture is being promoted and Islamic traditions are being ignored in Pakistan, a country that came into being in the name of Islam.
He said that the students are the future builders of the nation and they should be imparted such a training that makes them true Muslims and patriotic Pakistanis.
He praised the administration of the school for imparting knowledge to students about the ideology of Pakistan.
Principal of the school Nasim Nighat Seema in her welcome address said about 2,500 female students have taken admission in the new academic session. She said that admissions are given on merit while extra-curricular activities are also held regularly.
She drew the attention of Nazim towards the boundary walls of the school and requested him for their elevation. She also demanded removal garbage dumps and encroachments from surroundings of the school building.
Later, he distributed prizes among students and inaugurated the computer laboratory.
DIRECTIVE: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has directed the DCO Karachi to let him know what action had been taken on the resolutions adopted by the city council so far which were forwarded to him or EDOs for compliance.
In a letter sent to the DCO on Thursday, the Nazim said he believed that there must be a responsible officer to take care of his office secretariat.
He also instructed all EDOs to send replies of all the queries raised by the members of the city council regarding their departments.—PPI/APP
