KARACHI, April 10: In continuation of the 75th founding anniversary celebrations of the Sobhraj Maternity Hospital, a stress management workshop was organized by the hospital for its post-graduate doctors and under-trainee nurses.

Director, Institute of Mind Sciences, Prof. Moiz Hussain, informed that there are four types of stress: emotional stress, physical stress, cognitive stress and the spiritual stress.

According to a study, emotional stress is the number one killer in the Western world. Emotional stress is usually created by hard memories stored in the sub-conscious part of mind.

As stress is related with thoughts, all thoughts must be realistic and positive, which ultimately effect the actions and results.

Properly-guided emotions and positive thinking can significantly reduce physical stress, as the individuals can feel happy after hard work if their thoughts are positive.

Cognitive stress is a mental problem created by the individuals who have highly competitive nature.

This stress is mainly due to jealousy and it can be easily avoided while some persons face this type of stress during driving on streets, he added.

Fourth and the most recently discovered stress is spiritual stress that was discovered after 9/11. It is identified as the power of the faith required for self-healing and seek solace from the authority that can do the impossible, which is nothing else but the Almighty Allah.

Prof. Moiz said while west has a very good system of governance, but their faith in Almighty Allah is limited that leads to selfishness and intolerance.

He added that one of the strongest factors effecting emotions is guilty feeling, and for its redressal Christians have the system of confession, while for Muslims, our faith is to seek forgiveness directly from Almighty Allah through prayers.

MS of Sobhraj Maternity Hospital spoke about various activities of the hospital, while secretary-general of the PMA, Dr. Shershah Syed, presented the vote of thanks.—PPI
